| Welcome to Our Healthy Diet web page DIET What is healthy diet? The healthy diet is a balanced diet, contain foods from all the food groups, low in saturated fat and refined sugar, and moderate in protein. Although we need fat and carbohydrates, we don't need saturated fat or refined sugar. These are causing our diet and weight problems. A healthy diet means not only eating the proper foods, but also eating them in proper proportion and at proper time. Healthy Diet = Proper Food + Proper Proportion + Proper Time A healthy diet concept is: "Eat to live, not live to eat". It is best if we understand that the purpose of eating is to supply our being with the energy. All diseases take their origin in overloading the stomach. If you have no appetite, do not take anything. Let the stomach enjoy a full holiday. Vegetables and fruit, in particular, are essential for efficient metabolism and a healthy diet. What does balanced diet contain? A balanced diet must contain following things in the correct proportions. 1. Carbohydrates: these provide a source of energy. 2. Proteins: these provide a source of materials for growth and repair. 3. Fats: these provide a source of energy and contain fat soluble vitamins. 4. Vitamins: these are required in very small quantities to keep you healthy. 5. Mineral Salts: these are required for healthy teeth, bones, muscles etc.. 6. Fibre: this is required to help your intestines function correctly. Dietary guidelines for balanced, healthy eating are based on the Food Guide Pyramid. This food pyramid highlight the six main food groups of a balanced diet. Now eating a balanced diet means eating foods from each of the six main food groups, each day - however fats, oils & sweets, should be eaten sparingly. The 6 food Groups are (A)Fats, Oils, Sweets (B)Milk, Yogurt & Cheese (C)Meat, Poultry, Fish, Dry Beans, Eggs, Nuts (D)Vegetables (E)Fruits (F)Bread, Cereal, Rice, Pasta. What is perfect food or diet? There is no perfect food or diet and the reason there is no perfect food or diet is that what we need is determined by a variety of individual conditions and factors. Some of these include climate, geographical location, ancestry, physical and emotional state, work, and life-style. Thus, what we choose to eat becomes an expression of all aspects of our being. While, for the most part, people are the same in their basic nutritional needs (protein, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, etc), amounts for each may differ according to environmental as well as constitutional and hereditary factors. What may be a natural and appropriate food for an aboriginal living in a complete state of interdependence with his or her natural surrounding is quite different from the requirements of an Indian yogi. What is Yogic diet? The yogic diet is a vegetarian one, consisting of pure, simple, natural foods which are easily digested and promote health. Simple meals aid the digestion. The Yogic diet can help in attaining a high standard of health, sharp intellect and peace of mind. What are Nutritional requirements? Nutritional requirements fall under five categories: protein, carbohydrates, minerals, fats and vitamins. Eating foods first-hand from nature, grown in fertile soil (free from chemicals and pesticides) will help ensure a better supply of these nutritional needs. Processing, refining and overcooking destroy much food value. There is a cycle in nature known as the "food cycle" or "food chain". The Sun is the source of energy for all life on our planet; it nourishes the plants (the top of the food chain) which are then eaten by animals (vegetarian), which are then eaten by other animals (carnivores). The food at the top of the food chain, being directly nourished by the Sun, has the greatest life energy. The food value of animal flesh is termed as "second-hand" source of nutrition. All natural foods (fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and grains) have, in varying quantities, different proportions of these essential nutrients. As source of protein, these are easily assimilated by the body. However, second-hand sources are often more difficult to digest and are of less value to the body's metabolism. What are Essential Nutrients? Essential nutrients are nutrients that your body can’t make on its own. Essential nutrients include vitamins and minerals as well as some amino acids. What are the World Healthiest Foods? Healthy food share the following characteristics: 1. The foods with all their natural endowment of nutrients and they have not been highly processed. 2. They are foods that ‘Contain No Synthetic, Artificial or Irradiated Ingredients’. 3. They are ‘Organically Grown’. What about Diet pills? I personally do not want to comment on use of diet pill, however I do believe best diet is natural diet based on food guide pyramid and also recommend that before starting any dieting plan ,please consult qualified dietitian or your doctor please.
