Deepak Chopra Meditation power and Baja Earthquake

Recently the monster quake rocked Baja California on Sunday 4th of April 2010. It was very powerful quake with the magnitude of 7.2 along the US Mexico border. Reasons could be seismological however according to the international famed transcendental meditation guru, Deepak Chopra, it was because of his meditation.

Deepak Chopra said in his tweet “Had a powerful meditation just now — caused an earthquake in Southern California,” wrote to his Twitter followers shortly after the quake.

And then later he clarified: “Was meditating on Shiva mantra & earth began to shake,” he tweeted. “Sorry about that.” Now it is difficult to understand these comments at such moments from such a renowned meditation guru.

There could only be two aspects to these statements from Deepak. (a) Either he is suggesting that he possessed these powers that could cause quake (b) or he is cutting a joke to appear funny and both of which are difficult to understand.

If we consider the first option (a) and let’s say that Deepak possessed some mystical powers, then isn’t he is aware what could be the consequences??? Or should I say he is unaware of what he is doing??? Then what kind of guru Deepak is???

If he really possessed these powers shouldn’t by now he should rectify the damage cause by his own folly??? But none of the damage control action is taken by Deepak instead of saying sorry, so does he really posses any mystical power???

Let’s consider option (b) Deepak is trying to be funny, well in that case I would say it is difficult to imagine the kind of meditation practice he is following. Because the first percept in the meditation practice is not to kill and here killing doesn’t mean only physical killing but also not to kill the peace of other people. And certainly by using these insensitive comments Deepak has tried to kill the peace of residents of Baja California and others and of course violated the very first step of meditation.

Mediation is a process of purifying the mind then how come with his pure mind Deepak can give these impure comments??? At least I can’t understand perhaps Deepak could have. I wish Deepak replies to these points.
