Currently Subodh Gupta, a corporate yoga trainer from India is in London conducting classes on New Scientific Yoga. He is holding sessions for personal and corporate training.Gupta explains that the concept of scientific yoga is different from the usual yoga. It is not the same yoga session for everybody but a yoga style customized for each individual's need and comfort level. According to Gupta this form of yoga helps release stress. Researchers at the University of California found that women who practiced yoga regularly had better self-images and fewer eating disorders than those who kept in shape through traditional aerobic activities like jogging. It was reported in science portal EurekAlert. These behavioral scientists conducted two different studies on three groups of women — those who currently attended yoga classes, those who did aerobic exercise and those who had not done any yoga or aerobic exercise for the last two years. Indian women cricketers undergoing yoga camp Indian women cricketers, are undergoing a three-day yoga camp at Mount Abu to "enhance their mental strength, concentration and attitude". The sports wing of the Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation is organising the camp which would cover topics like stress management, diet and the importance of yoga in cricket. Yoga Benefits for Cancer Patients to be Studied There are good news for cancer patients as Scientists in the United States and India have begun a research collaboration to validate the belief that yoga benefits cancer patients. The collaboration, which unites researchers from M. D. Anderson and the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (Research Foundation) in Bangalore, India, represents a shared mission to integrate yoga-based therapies into cancer treatment regimens. Ongoing research is examining whether the yoga program: Diminishes fatigue and sleep disturbances ,Improves overall quality of life and mental health ,Reduces stress hormone levels and improves aspects of immune function Researchers from both institutions are currently studying the effects of Indian-based yoga on breast cancer patients undergoing radiation treatments. Research that Cohen published last year in the journal Cancer found that cancer patients participating in a Tibetan yoga program had lower levels of sleep disturbances than patients in the control group. Improving sleep quality may be particularly significant because sleep disturbances are common problems for cancer patients. Bulgaria Promoting Yoga June 11 2005: Bulgaria held its traditional tenth yoga festival at the National Palace of Culture in the capital.The participant in the festival, were of various age group. Brinda, CITU protest against yoga expert Swami Ramdev CPM leader wants probe into use of human skull in medicines JUNE 22 : The tussle between CPM politicle bureau member Brinda Karat and a Dehraudun-based yoga guru took a turn today when the Left leader demanded a probe into allegations that human skull and organs of wild animals are used in some ayurvedic medicines made by Divya Yog Pharmacy, run by Swami Ramdev. Brinda during her last visit to Hardwar, had taken up the cause of sacked workers from the pharmacy. Today, she and other CITU members and sacked workers staged a day-long dharna in front of the secretariat here. Brinda met Uttaranchal Labour Secretary. The Divya Yog Mandir Trust, which runs the pharmacy,(run by swami ram dev) has accused Karat of playing into the hands of MNCs to malign yoga and ayurveda. The trouble for the Swami Ramdev Ji started following the sacking of 125 volunteers who worked in the pharmacy in Hardwar. Comenting on allegations, secretary of the Divya Yog Mandir Trust, said “the allegations made against the pharmacy are malicious and an attempt to malign yoga, ayurveda and the country.” “Only sea shells and herbs are used in the medicines which are registered with the Government,” he added. |
