These soft drinks are not calorie-free. An average can of soda has carbonic or phosphoric
acid and some have up to 50 mg of caffeine along with about 140 calories.

Many soft drinks (including fizzy and sweetened soft drinks) contain a lot of sugar,
approximately 40-50 grams. These drinks are said to have lots of ‘empty calories’ – they
can result in putting on extra weight and don’t have much nutritional value.  

“A child’s odds of becoming obese increase by 60 percent with each additional daily serving
